Beer of the Week: Ommegang Game Of Thrones ‘Fire and Blood’ Red Ale

Take what is yours with fire and blood. An officially licensed Game of Thrones beer by Brewery Ommegang. Located in Cooperstown, New York the brewery – brewing Belgian-style ales and part-owned by Duvel Moortgat – forms quite a contrast another famous landmark, the quintessentially American Baseball Hall of Fame.

Fire and Blood is a 6.8% ABV red ale brewed with a diverse pilsener, Cara–60, midnight wheat, flaked rye and spelt mash bill. Assertively hopped, including CTZ, Styrian Golding and German Tettnang varieties, what’ll really put the valar in your morghulis is the addition of deseeded ancho chillies, lending the beer lingering undertones of raisin and prune. The complex, blood-red beer then lays spicy, floral hops; a sweetish, malt-rich mid-palate and faintly drying finish on top.

Each label randomly features one one of Daenerys’s three dragons. But unlike Drogon, Rhaegal and Viserion at the end of season four, we won’t be able to keep them locked up – we’ve only been able to secure 12 bottles.
