Beer of the week: 2017 Mountain Goat ‘Barrel Breed’ Barley Wine

Back in 2015, Mountain Goat launched their first barley wine to critical acclaim and even scored a gold medal at the Australian International Beer Awards. Excitingly, the same recipe has been employed for the latest edition, albeit with whisky-soaked barrels from Starward, as opposed to Hobart’s Lark Distillery. While extra cellaring will offer further integration, it’s incredibly decadent to taste now as notes of sweet spice, complex malts and vanilla mark the occasion.
