Beer of the week: 2017 Hop Nation Brewing Co. x Jamsheed The Sturm
In line with last year’s edition, Hop Nation have again added a dose of “wild-fermenting Riesling juice from Jamsheed’s Garden Gully vineyard in Western Victoria” into “a small batch of Hop Nation Pilsner wort” to great effect. Here, the fermenting juice provides enough yeast to get the wort fermenting and thus adds an acidic tang and pleasant vinous character to the end product. In order to bolster the beer’s homage to Riesling’s spiritual home, even all-German — Northern Brewer, Hallertau and Hallertau Melon – hops are employed to provide a piney-fresh dimension.
