Wine of the week: 2013 Domaine de Beauvernay ‘Terroir de Jullié’ Juliénas

From a small family estate established in 1838 and based in Juliénas – a little known cru named after Julius Caesar – of north Beaujolais. Lifted aromas of fleshy cherry, raspberry, cinnamon, violets and plutonic rock lead the way; while clean and crunchy raspberry notes combine with hints of pepper, spice, stoney minerality and tertiary earth characters on the palate. We recently tried this Gamay at a staff tasting and all agreed that it’s in a great drinking window, so get in quick before we buy it all.
