Wine of the week: 2016 Ampeleia Unlitro

Elisabetta Foradori, famous pioneer of the Teroldego grape in Trentino, also plants other varietals not normally found in the region of Maremma and releases them under the ‘Ampeleia’ moniker. Even more distinctively, this cuvée is presented in a stumpy, one-litre bottle. A blend of Alicante (Grenache), Carignano and Alicante Bouche, the wine sees no oak – just six months in a steel tank. Airy aromas dominate with briar berries, star anise, cherries and very fresh acidity dominating. Clearly, 750ml of this wine is just not enough.
