Beer of the week: Melvin Brewing

Melvin – in case you’re unfamiliar – is another highly-regarded American Ratebeer darling that’s obscurely located and very limited in distribution. The story goes that founder, Jeremy Tofte rolled into the ski town of Jackson Hole (near Yellowstone in Wyoming) with no intention other than to chase the fresh pow pow. He stuck around a little while, saved some money and, despite having never cooked Thai food before, decided to open a Thai restaurant/brewery. Sadly, due to licensing issues, it didn’t work. So he left to go surfing before coming back to receive approval to re-open a standalone brewery. It now produces some of America’s most sought-after beers. Notes from the brewers:

Melvin Brewing ‘2×4’ Double IPA
Our 2×4 Double IPA is the Gold Winner of numerous noteworthy awards, including the Alpha King Championship; two years in a row and counting. You’d be crazy not to drink this. So close your eyes, open up, and experience the mad floral, citrusy, and clean taste of hop talent. $11

Melvin Brewing ‘Hubert MPA’ Pale Ale
Light, crisp, fresh and a little bitty bitter. Lets just say he won’t be that jerk that leaves you at the bar at 2am. He’s low in alcohol. What a nice guy… that Hubert. $7

Melvin Brewing ‘Melvin’ IPA
“Fruity, intense, but not bitter like the rest of them. As long as you don’t take advantage, we think this is the hoppiest relationship you could ask for… hold my hand? $8

Melvin Brewing ‘Killer Bees’ American Blonde Ale
Clean, smooth, slow motion, easy drinking, honey. The palate cleanser extraordinaire. Perfect for mowing your unwatered lawn, sipping in the shower, or fishing on a Sunday. $7
