Wines of the week: 2017 BK Wines & Michael Hall ‘Grafted Editions’ Release
We’re chuffed to release our latest, collaboratively-made Grafted Editions wines. This time around, with a little help from BK Wines and Michael Hall, the two varieties directly play to the winemaker’s strengths – and with our audience in mind, the wines have achieved two of our favourite qualities: drinkability and intrigue.
2017 BK Wines x Blackhearts
‘Grafted Editions #5’ Savagnin
Floral, textural and citrusy; this slightly hazy Savagnin comes from a single, wild-fermented barrel that wasn’t topped up in its ageing process. As a result, it’s decidedly oxidative (read: saline and nutty) and reminiscent of its counterparts from France’s Jura region. Perfect as an aperitif alongside antipasti or oysters. $32
2017 Michael Hall x Blackhearts
‘Grafted Editions #6’ Shiraz
A Shiraz that’s more akin to an elegant Pinot Noir. So while there’s power, drive and firm, whole-bunch-derived savoury notes; there’s also a calming measure of fragrant cherry, earthy spice and vibrant acidity. Barossa, but not as you may know it. $28
