Bang for Buck: 2017 Francesco Cirelli Release
Francesco Cirelli’s organic wines, crafted near the comune of Atri in Abruzzo, offer a few of our favourite things: approachability, interest, and, especially under this bang for buck banner, serious value. So forget everything you might know about Trebbiano and Montepulciano’s notorious monotony – these compelling expressions are so lively to taste. And they contain minimal sulphur.
2017 Francesco Cirelli Vino Bianco
A richer example of Trebbiano that’s subtly nutty, with a saline, oxidative edge. There’s a generous lick of dried stone fruit notes amongst the wine’s waxy texture.
2017 Francesco Cirelli Vino Rosato
This, perhaps, is the ideal winter rosé; it’s dry, savoury and structured, and marked by deep, pronounced sandalwood and amaro characters. Notes of bitter orange, red boiled lollies and wood spice round out the offering.
2017 Francesco Cirillo Vino Rosso
A lifted, floral Montepulciano presenting red cherry, strawberry juice and wild herb aromas. On the palate: cherry ripe, dark plum and a refreshing line of acidity to keep everything in check.
