Wine of the week: 2018 A.R.C. Wine Releases

These wines come from the team of Jessica Martin and James Audas: Jessica currently runs Hogget Kitchen and James is one of the partners of imports company Lo-fi. A.R.C stands for A Random Collection, in reference to their sourcing fruit from a selection of vineyards to allow for a diversity of choice as they start out on their wine-making journey. All made with as little intervention as possible (with guidance and support from Bill Downie, Patrick Sullivan, and Rob Burley), and minimal sulphur adds (30ppm max) where deemed necessary.

A.R.C Wines Manny Rose 2018, $28
The fruit for this Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot rose comes from the Hickinbotham vineyard on the Mornington Peninsula. Spent twenty hours on skins in the press due to a mechanical stitch-up, but it happily brings plenty of weight and texture. Rosehip, red berries, and some savouriness on the palate.

A.R.C Wines The Vintage Field Blend 2018, $30
Spring red blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. All fermented in the same tank with the components gradually added to the mix during vintage as they were picked and processed. Red flower aromatics, tangy citrus, general deliciousness – chill and drink in a park for maximum enjoyment!

A.R.C Wines Carson Cabernet Merlot 2018, $32
Cabernet Sauvignon that was picked a week after the rose, carbonically macerated, then blended with some Merlot. Juicy red berries, bramble, a pinch of leafy tannins, and definitely a slurpy durpy good time. (No So2)
