Beer of the week: Two Metre Tall Farm Ales

To say that Two Metre Tall is a unique brewery is something of an understatement – Ashley and Jane Huntington moved to Tasmania many years ago with the intention of making wine, and instead got well and truly consumed by brewing. Their farm ales are a combination of mixed and wild fermentation and are made to age beautifully, developing acidity and sour complexity as they go along.

Cleansing Ale (aged 6 months)  (375ml), $10
Incredibly clean, crisp and aromatic when freshly bottled – with age, this takes on a light and bright citrus acidity that keeps the ale fresh and ‘cleansing’ as it continues on its journey. These develop beautifully with a bit of time in bottle, but rather than you having to buy it and stash it away, Ashley has done the hard work for you and held these back for six months, so you can get stuck in!

Derwent Aromatic Spelt Farmhouse Ale (375ml), $12
Part of Two Metre Tall’s ‘River Series’, highlighting different rivers, regions, and styles of their corner of the world. The Derwent uses farm grown whole hop flowers, Tasmanian grown raw spelt, and is naturally soured by the indigenous microflora present on the grain. Lovely complex body, refreshing acidity, and so so delicious.
