Bang for Buck: Sobah Non-Alcoholic Beverages

Choosing not to drink can stem from a range of reasons and personal choices – and way back in the past, the options for those choosing not to drink could tend to be a bit dismal. But we’re here to tell you that those days are GONE! The most recent star in non-alcoholic offerings is Sobah – an Aboriginal-owned business hailing from Queensland, crafting non-alcoholic beers utilising the unique flavour characteristics of indigenous fruits and spices. Their aim (besides making delicious drinks) is to raise cultural awareness and to promote Aboriginal arts, language, and history through the Sobah range.

Sobah Lemon Aspen Pilsner
Based on a Czech pale ale, this is a delightfully fresh and citrusy brew, with a distinct hop characteristic. The star ingredient here lemon aspen – a pale, lemon-coloured fruit that only grows to about 2cm in diameter – which naturally grows in Far North Queensland throughout the Kuku Yalanji Language Nations lands. The end result is light and fruity, with a pleasing hop bitterness.

Sobah Pepperberry IPA
Their take on an India Pale Ale, with a focus on the hoppy & citrusy characteristics, amplified by the addition of Australian Native Pepperberries. The Pepperberry tree naturally grows in the cold high country of Southern New South Wales, Victoria, and Tasmania, and is renowned for its herbal and spicy flavour profile.
