Wine of the week: 2018 Luke Lambert Chardonnay & Syrah

It’s that time of the year again – the beautiful time when we get to dig into Luke Lambert’s outstanding new Chardonnay and Syrah releases. We have a tendency to wax lyrical about Lambert’s single vineyard releases, and it’s with good reason: these are stunning wines that deftly represent site, season, and varietal, and are obscenely well-priced for this calibre of wine. Take our advice, get two bottles of these phenomenal wines: one for now, then one for a couple of weeks down the line when you’re reminiscing about just how good the first bottle was and wishing you had another.

2018 Luke Lambert Chardonnay, $42
A slightly warmer vintage brings a beautiful white peach and pear character, with that mineral line, flint, and citrus pith bringing it all together (along with a little oxidative touch for intrigue). Tibooburra vineyard fruit.

2018 Luke Lambert Syrah, $42
Also from the Tibooburra vineyard: more concentrated than last year, with charcuterie, red and black berries, pepper, smooth tannins, and lovely spice from 80% whole bunch fermentation.
