Wine of the week: 2018 Sholto Syrah
While we all love the established wineries – those ones we keep going back to each vintage and getting to know over the years – it can be such a pleasure to come upon a winery as it starts to gather speed in the industry. The perfect example? Sholto – an exciting label from winemaker Jake Carter who’s been working in Canberra vineyards and wineries since the spritely age of 18.
This cool climate Syrah comes from the warm, dry, 2018 vintage, with a delightful balance of crushed lavender & torn sage aromatics alongside subtle charcuterie, blackcurrant, and spiced plum. This is a beautiful expression of Syrah, and it’s great to see a new generation of winemakers crafting their own interpretations of this region and its vines.
