Somewhat of a rarity in the lo-fi wine world, the Eau d'Amis is a sweet wine made from a blend of organically grown fruit from the 2019 vintage which has been fortified and left to mature.
When winemaker Alex Schulkin isn't working at his cool-as day job as a researcher at the Australian Wine Research Institute, he and his partner Galit craft a range of pristine minimal intervention wines in the Adelaide Hills. Eau d'Amis No. 1 is a brand spanking new release made in collaboration with fellow Adelaide Hillians (that's not a word but roll with it), Scintilla.
Strawberry gum, grilled hazelnut, sweet red berries, and a slightly saline edge with juicy acidity that perfectly balances the residual sugar. It's a delicious wine to pair with cheese at the end of a meal, or try subbing it into a cocktail in place of sweet vermouth. The possibilities are endless!

Who is Scintilla?
After a stint as a sommelier, James Madden had always dreamed of making his own wine. Having worked vintages as close to home as the Mornington Peninsula and as far afield as Languedoc in France, James decided it was time to take the plunge, so he set his sights on a pocket of land in the Adelaide Hills to make his dream a reality.
Along with his partner, Sam, the pair made the move from Melbourne to the bucolic Basket Ranges in the Hills, and Scintilla Wines was born. Sharing a shed with Alex Schulkin of The Other Right and Dave Caporaletti of Architects of Wine, James' wines are made with a staunchly minimal intervention focus, using organically farmed fruit and refusing to use any added sulphur in the winery.
