Been craving some complex, unique, and beautifully expressive wines from the mountainous Savoie region? Well you’re in luck, because Jean-Yves Péron is here!
After years studying winemaking and working with iconic winemakers like Thierry Allemand in Cornas and Bruno Schuller in Alsace, Savoie-born and raise Péron came back home in 2004 and has been making prolific cuvées ever since.
Due to the mountainous terrain, all of his vineyards are managed very manually, following organic and biodynamic viticultural practices (though he’s chosen to opt out of official certification). Championing forgotten local varieties and considered, minimal intervention winemaking techniques, the wines of Jean-Yves Péron are true joys to drink!
The 2018 Les Oeillets is made from 100% Jacquere which underwent a brief skin maceration, resulting in a lighter wine with notes of citrus, rockmelon, and subtle spice. As is the case with all of Jean-Yves' wines in this release, it is bottled without any sulphur additions.
Jean-Yves Peron La Petite Robe
The 2018 La Petite Robe is made from 100% Jacquere which spent one week on skins before being pressed and aged for 12 months in neutral oak. It is a light and delicate wine, which beautifully marries saline minerality with subtle florals and spice
Jean-Yves Peron Cotillon Des Dames
The 2018 Cotillon des Dames is made from Jacquere and Altesse which has spent six months on skins, before being aged in neutral oak on fine lees for a year and bottled with no sulphur additions. Powerfully mineral, with preserved citrus, alpine herbs, and pulpy tannin resulting in a complex and thoroughly intriguing wine.
Jean-Yves Peron La Grande Journee
One of Jean-Yves' most robust cuvées, made from a blend of Altesse and Roussanne that has undergone a two-month skin maceration before being aged in neutral oak on fine lees and bottled with no sulphur additions. Pouring a deep, burnished colour with an overt minerality and powerful structure, this is a phenomenal wine and one to take your time with.
Jean-Yves Peron Vers La Maison Rouge Rose
The 2018 Vers La Maison Rouge is a blend of Mondeuse and Gamay which underwent a short five-day maceration before being pressed and transferred to neutral oak for 12 months. This is a pristine and beautifully delicate rosé, with a vibrant core of red berries underpinned by a trademark minerality that Jean-Yves so expertly weaves into his wines.
Jean-Yves Peron La Tour De Sarazine
Made from 100% Muscat Blanc a Petits Grains that has spent two months on skins before being aged in neutral oak on fine lees and bottled with no sulphur additions. A lovely floral nose with a little peach and tropical fruit, yet underpinned by a dry and beautifully textured palate.
Jean-Yves Peron I Vicini Favorita
Jean-Yves' 2018 I Vicini Favorita is made with grapes purchased from growers in Piedmont, Italy. The variety used, Favorita, is a close relative of Pigato/Vermentino. The grapes underwent a two-week carbonic maceration before being transferred to neutral oak, resulting in a savoury and textural wine with a powerful minerality and chalky tannins. As is the case with all of Jean-Yves' wines in this release, it is bottled without any sulphur additions.
Jean-Yves Peron I Vicini Moscato Maceration
Jean-Yves' 2018 I Vicini Moscato is made with grapes purchased from growers in Piedmont, Italy which are usually used in the production of Moscato d'Asti. Here they are treated very differently, macerated on skins for two weeks as whole clusters, and then aged in neutral oak. It is savoury and dry, with subtle florals and persistent tannins. As is the case with all of Jean-Yves' wines in this release, it is bottled without any sulphur additions.
