A touch of blush goes well with a squeeze of strawberry and watermelon and a little spice. There’s red fruit too, so that’s body and shape which is always welcome but things are kept lean with some fresh acidity.

Fresh and crisp with a dusting of blanched, almond richness to help fill out the story. Bring it to the park, or their house, with cheeses. The acidity will cut through everything nicely, even a delicious buerre blanc and scallops if you’re feeling fancy.

From the guitarist, Matthew Aulich who was a founding member of Hobart band The Paradise Hotel, comes an annual hit that’s full of red frogs, red cherries and currants. It’s super good with a lazy summer evening pizza, and you can even put it in the fridge to dial up the refreshment.

This year’s got all the tangy orange edges, sweet red cherry and some drowned out tannin which is just noticeable enough. Pour, tip and enjoy over an afternoon in the park. Oh and if you like it a little cooler, don’t hesitate to give it some time in the fridge.

Fruits are sourced from the King Valley and Strathbogie Ranges, and carry plenty of slightly darker-for-Pinot flavours, while retaining buoyant and brisk acidity and a little minty fresh alpine-y edge. This is all value and leaves you a little to think about if you want to let your thoughts linger or drift.

Skye Ridge Pinot Noir 2022

Light, fine and expressive with the perfect amount of phenolic crunch and freshness. It’s almost all Sangiovese, but there’s just enough Tempranillo to dial up the punch and spice. This is damn fine wine, so beware if you're opening it in a social setting, empty glasses seem magnetised to this bottle and before you know it you’ll be checking our hours and running to the nearest Blackhearts for another bottle.
