Soumah – South of Maroondah so this wine’s all about place and optimising the conditions to come up with something that speaks for the year, with just a little bit of the winemakers’ inflection. Marzemino is traditionally a Trentino grape that’s robust and full of big, dark fruits, some lovely savoury tones, and chalky tannins. This nails that, but gives just a little Yarra brightness and approachability.

Cab. Franc. It’s ‘IN’ at the moment, and why wouldn’t it be? Value-laden, and full of a firm but balanced tannin that’s kept fresh with red currants and a smidge of herbaceous beetroot and lengthhhhhhhhhh. Pretty peonies and rose petals blossom in every glass so pour, pour, pour away until your heart’s hydrated and the bottle’s empty. Hits with some chalky tannin and a little bright, but fleshy fruit.

We love this, and think it applies to refreshing wines in that if you want someone to feel refreshed, you should give them a refreshing, delightful Chardonnay that’s full of lemon leaf, citrus peels and just enough nutty creaminess to make the experience more textural.

Soft richness with a snapped-off piece of nougat and a peachy fruit feel that’s almost palpable and fades into your mood and takes over in the best way, like the Mazzy Star song that inspired this note. PHI Lusatia Park Pinot Noir 2019

Our love affair with Gamay is no secret and we've fallen hard for this one! A touch richer in style than often seen in local examples of the variety—fans of more traditional (read not Nouveau Carbonic) Gamay will find allegiance with this bottle. Expect lovely crunchy and snappy brambly berries, tart cherry with gentle brushes of herbs and a genuine fan of tannin driving and building through the palate. Pair with lentils and Toulouse sausage with a big dollop of mustard while listening to Leonard Cohen. Fruit was sourced largely from the Abbey Vineyard in Tarrawarra and fermented as a mix of whole berry and whole bunches, on skins for two weeks, before transferring to puncheons for six months maturation.

BISTRO Gamay 2023

In the glass, expect some autumnal leaves and velvety fine tannins spreading nicely across the palate, with a lick of meaty oak lending some chew and a savoury, structural edge to the wine.

Rob Hall Pinot Noir 2023

Wonderfully aromatic, notes of bright red damson plum meet red cherry and raspberry to draw you further into the glass. Sitting prettily amongst dark forestal fruits on the flavour spectrum, with hints of woodland spice, fresh acidity and light touches of whole bunch sap, before late building tannin. Pretty, elegant and the perfect bottle to open at your next French bistro-themed dinner party.

A modern and pure Chardonnay serving up everything there is to love about this variety in spades. Pristine notes of grapefruit and lemon citrus and balm. Deftly light-medium-weighted, with a line of pure, clean acidity woven through. Coming from three sites in the Yarra Valley and aged in a mix of French oak barriques, puncheons and foudre for eight to nine months.
