Garnacha and Bobal, sing it out over the hilltops and feel the breeze hit you with all its red jube fruit and fine but firm tannins. Valencia is an especially delicious place so it’s no surprise what's happened here. It’s gonna be a great afternoon, especially if you break out the paella dish.

Syrah drinker appropriate meaning it’ll be play nice with the entire family no matter what the occasion that’s brought you all together. Has some good pepperberry spray and a nice amount of blue fruit juiciness that’s so moreish. Love it.

Aged for two years in large oak to develop smooth elegance and the big, intense fruitiness we’re all longing for. Palate is all full and luscious with black fruit. You’re going to really love this.

Taylors Fine Ruby Port 750ml

Sangiovese with a couple of friends, Collorino and Cannaiolo, who seemed to show up as soon as the water started boiling and the amount of pasta needed to be calculated. The three combine for amaro and blood orange juice running over terracotta with enough bright acidity to get through the host’s famous ragu.

Very much on the bright side for Sangiovese, complete with all the black and red cherries, and a lot of dusty tannins. Some wines are just honest in the best way and taste and behave, true to style. Pair it with any Tuscan specialty at lunch – Pappardelle with pork.

Soumah – South of Maroondah so this wine’s all about place and optimising the conditions to come up with something that speaks for the year, with just a little bit of the winemakers’ inflection. Marzemino is traditionally a Trentino grape that’s robust and full of big, dark fruits, some lovely savoury tones, and chalky tannins. This nails that, but gives just a little Yarra brightness and approachability.

Just over the region line, past Lago di Garda, where the mountains really start to scrape the sky, Cantina d'Isera sits on the flatlands between the river and the Autostrada. It’s an amazing part of the world and this has all the lovely, rich texture running alongside some big, but friendly fruits flavours. Would be amazing with rabbit polenta – Dolomiti dot i.t. has a great recipe.

There’s also some phenolic pull, a little salinity and a chalky tannin. Another bottle that supports our 'Gris might just be Mornington’s best variety' stance.

The generosity of New Zealanders is so abundant that it seeps into their wine. That’s why they smile over there when they drink, not because of the ABV. The flavour and depth might also have something to do with it. Take this Chardy with all its grapefruit acidity, and white to yellow nectarine juiciness that’s lined with some creamy oak that dances on the back palate. It’s practically a bottle of balance.

Cheers to all the generous mulberry, plums and that little leafy, spiced oak. It’s literally the ‘jewel’ in our Merlot/Cabernet section, so if you like shiny rocks and you were meant for me, then I was meant for you.
