We’re calling it Côte du Rho-ssa thanks to its style and profile which is all blackberries, cassis red fruit and just a bite of black licorice. Stays dry throughout and everything here is harmonious so nothing screams out for attention which is the sign. Great winemaking, great value.

Medium-bodied with soft dark berries, earthy spice and dried herbs with fresh acidity and plush texture. This would suit a Shiraz drinker looking to branch out and try something new!

Las Reñas Monastrell 2019

Vibrant red currant and plum aromas, with savoury root vegetable notes and a ferrous iron edge; the concentration of flavours, firm tannins and fresh acidity wraps everything up nicely. This is worth throwing a BBQ for, so call your mates and get the charcoal on STAT!

Very delicious and very limited! Garrut, the Catalonian name for Monastrell (more commonly known here as Mataro), is more structured with some light reduction, that blows off quickly to reveal wild strawberry, savoury notes of charcuterie and a firm salinity is met with plenty of texture and character. Partida Creus GT Garut 2019

Mataro (or Mourvèdre, as it is more commonly referred to) is predominantly employed in GSM blends here in Australia, but gosh darnit it can produce some fantastic varietal wines. Medium-weighted, with notes of cherry cola, clove, and black pepper notes alongside plush tannins. A fantastic midweek red for the dinner table! (750ml) 16.1% ABV

Spinifex La Cigale 2021

This Mataro Shiraz blend is made in a fresh and fruit-forward style, with the fruit coming from the Riverland & Hilltops region. Lovely cooling herbs, lavender, some blueberries and a smidge of chalky tannin.

Mallaluka Mataro Shiraz 2021

A nice violet lift with some crushed clove and woody herbs. A tempered boysenberry sweetness holds through the wine with a savoury but not necessarily structured finish.

This chilled red is the perfect BBQ guest. Made with a light touch, there’s lots of crunchy red berries, and a subtle meaty edge some blood plum. Best chilled on a hot day.

Castillo de Enguera Reserva Monastrell 2018

Winemaker Abel Gibson's connection to the Barrossa Valley runs deep, having lived there since he was two. He has worked with some of Australia most iconic winemakers, but has never undergone any formal training. His approach lends itself to one of instinct and tradition. Fruit is sourced from his home vineyard in Flaxman’s Valley, along with some other parcels from like-minded growers and friends. The fruit is harvested according to the biodynamic calendar, racking and bottle according to moon cycles. You can expect some whole bunch and various levels of skin contact, sometimes up to 12 months. His wines, continue to show the deliberate and considered effort in the art of blending small parcels of wine to bring together an intriguing whole. With such a small production, these wines are incredibly limited.
