ABOUT PINOT NOIR
It’s no secret that Pinot Noir is the world’s most popular light to medium-bodied red wine, but there’s more than meets the eye to this famous variety. Notoriously difficult to grow, and challenging to work with in the winery, there’s an almost enigmatic quality to Pinot that’s hard to put into words.
When made as a red wine, Pinot Noir can produce bright, red-fruited wines that are joyous to drink, although it can also produce structured, brooding wines that require decades of ageing to soften its complex tannins. You’ll even find this wonderful red grape in Blanc de Noirs Champagne (along with Pinot Meunier). Perhaps the most notable example of the grape variety is red Burgundy, from Pinot Noir’s homeland in central-east France. These wines are vinous royalty, gilded with accolades and a reputation for elegance. Some of the most expensive wines you’ll find are red Burgundy, sought after by wine enthusiasts around the globe, although it would be a mistake to say that the key to a great Pinot is a hefty price tag. When it comes to food pairing for Pinot Noir, roast duck is a classic combination for a reason (or mushrooms for the vegetarians!) Here at Blackhearts, we strive to bring you a diverse range of Pinot Noir from all corners of the globe that suit every palate or budget.
