This RDJ has all the Coal River qualities but with even more depth and drive than a lot of wines coming out of the region. That means blackberries on the palate alongside a cranberry-laced acidity and an almost raspy tannin that’s long and fine.

Has all the bold flavours but serves them up in an elegant profile that tastes like smoked meats, spices, stony minerals and olive tapenade that unfurl in gentle layers.

Fleshy, pleasing fruits sink with a dab of crumbly tannins and fresh acidity. This smells juicy and clean, probably because the grapes were destemmed and fermented entirely in stainless. Feels like a pasta wine – ricotta and tomato pasta!!! Need a recipe? The Internet is your friend.

Speaking of energy, this has plenty, as well as lemon, lime, white pepper and pine spices. There was also some crispy acidity and a cleansing amount of salinity.

Spent one year in barrel and offers a big step up from Petit Chablis, but still good value. All citrus, but with flickers of stone fruit and hazelnut, and a smidge of richness, but still drinks clean.
